CURRICULUM VITAE

CURRICULUM VITAE

Overview
I am a resilient person and have a strong enthusiasm towards learning. When I set a goal, I work very hard to achieve the best outcome. This is evident by the scholarship that I am currently receiving from both of the Japanese and Korean government. I was very determined to receive the scholarship and vigorously worked to improve my academic performances. Currently I receive a scholarship that covers all the tuition fees and living expenses for four years. Also, I am passionate about many subjects, but in particular mathematics and physics. I find these two subjects very intriguing as there are still so many questions that are yet to be answered.
I would describe myself as an outgoing and an easy person to approach. I have a volunteer experience with helping young children with various ethnic backgrounds. Through this experience, I realized the significance of one person’s contribution and that it can really make a difference. Also, since I was young, I moved schools many times due to my father’s job. From this, I learnt how to make myself approachable as well as the skills to interact with various people.

Planning a product for the 2020 Olympics

Planning a product for the 2020 Olympics

Homework 13

image:http://matome.naver.jpodai2137859044986722401

We believe that the product essential for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics is a special Wi-Fi that can only be used in the Olympic application that we have created. When there are lots of people congested in a small area, the Wi-Fi tends to slows down, increasing the loading time for internet usage. However, this will not be the case, as the Wi-Fi is designed to work only on our application. Hence, the loading time will be fast enough for the people to retrieve any information without having to test their patience.

The main purpose of the application is to help the tourists. In 2020, many tourists will visit Japan to watch the Tokyo Olympics. However, since not many Japanese can speak English and as there are only few English guidance around the street of Tokyo, foreigners, like myself, find it very difficult to find a destination or even buy a train ticket. Thereby, the application will provide vital information that the tourists will need to know for their trip in Japan.

The Wi-Fi service will be available in majority of the convenient stores, public buildings, many restaurants, and more places. Moreover, the application will be completed before the Olympic season starts. Also, it will be constantly updated in order to include any new information such as change in stadium or time of a game or a train delay information.

As the majority of the tourists will be coming to watch the Tokyo Olympics, the application will provide information related to the time and location of a game. Also, it will include other information such as the transportation information to the Olympics stadium. Moreover, the tourists will be able to watch the game on live using the application and the results will be updated regularly. Nevertheless, as the tourists will also want to look around the city, the application will not only focus on the Olympic information, but also provide traveling information around Tokyo as well. The information may include the nearest toilet location, bus stops and train stations. Also, translating function will be included as well as simple and practical dialogues such as “Where is the nearest convenient store?”or ”Where is the toilet?” will be included in the service.

The Olympic app can help travelers a lot
image: http://thenextweb.com/dd/2013/10/21/five-ways-prepare-app-supercharged-launch-app-store/

The way in which a person can have access to this system is by registering before they visit Japan. This service is only available to the foreigners and the users must have their user ID and password in order to have access to the Wi-Fi and the application. The tourists can simply register for free at their local travel agencies and a week before their visit to Japan, they will receive an email with all the details of how to download and use the system. The reason for the pre-registration is to make sure that the server does not shut down due to over accessing the application. By mandating registration, the administrator can approximate the suitable size of their data base, which can help the system to run more smoothly.

What Are Your Thoughts on Ariana Miyamoto

What Are Your Thoughts on Ariana Miyamoto

Homework 12

image: https://plus.google.com/102836739583017893041/posts

Although there are some critics about her being the representative of Japan as a Miss. Universe, I think there is no problem of her being the representative of Japan. There are several reasons why I believe so.

First, she can be representative of the “half” in Japan. As I can see from the interview video, she constantly got bullied during her childhood. And also she pointed out that one of her “half” friend killing oneself became the reason why she entered in competition of choosing Miss. Nagasaki. She wanted to address to people of what it is like to live as a “half” in Japan. According to her, when she walks in streets of Japan, people see her as a foreigner; though she is ‘purely’ Japanese. I think her being the Miss. Universe can be a good chance of reminding Japanese that half-Japanese are one of them. And also she can give courage to half-Japanese like her that half-Japanese also can have same opportunity as Japanese.

Secondly, I think she can represent changing culture in Japan. Half being chosen as the Miss. Japan is first time in history. Miyamoto is born between American father and Japanese mother. Though, some people might think it is not appropriate for half to be a Miss. Japan , I think time has passed enough to tolerate difference in shapes. What is important now is not who their parents are, but how beautiful they look like, or how good in shape she is. I can feel from her being the Miss. Japan that she could compete in the same standard of other Japanese, which is a big difference in Japan. Korea also has the word for half. They are called ‘Damunhwa’ family. They are born between a foreigner and Korean. Since there appearance looks different, they get often bullied in school. And I think it is problem for both countries, Korea and Japan. So in my opinion, the government should be involved to solve this problem, since it is similar to racism. In order to get rid these kinds of prejudice out, education from primary school is important. It should be focused on convincing children that the most important thing is what is in inside, not the outside.

Damunhwa Family, they are all Korean
                                            image: http://ebpang.tistory.com/152

To sum up, I believe that Ariana Miyamoto deserves to be a Miss. Universe of Japan. Not only because, she represents as a half in Japan, but also she can represent changing air in Japanese society.

The One Thing 'Back To The Future II' Could Never Predict

Title: The One Thing 'Back To The Future II' Could Never Predict

Homework 11

An opinion:

As soon as I found out this article, I got very curious about the movie. Though I knew this movie was very popular before I saw this article, I never had chance to see it. Since it was a old movie made even 10 years before I was born, I though that it’s computer graphic, and the story line  would not be so great. But as I saw the movie, I enjoyed it a lot, and was very impressed about movie taking skill that time. Another thing that was interesting was the time by time machine to change the future was set to 2015 October 21, which is past of the time that I am writing up this post. I was excited about the fact that what people at that time might think a distant future is where I am. There were some mis-predictions on the movie which was natural. For example, putting the inside of pocket did not become trend of these days and also, we do not yet have a flying car nor a hover board. Though self-lacing shoes was made by Nike, it is only sold for few, since it is “the movie” special.

Actually, what the article was trying to say is that the fact the movie ‘Back To The Future II’ could not predicted companies and even politicians would milk 2015 October 21. I was a little disappointed of the article since what I expected was the amount of difference between science and culture of year 1986 and 2015. So I would like to talk about differences between the year 1986 and 2015, and what one thing the movie could not have predicted.

That time, people could imagine there would be a glasses that can communicate with others. We do have “Google glasses” but, people prefer Google glasses to flat square type smart phones. The biggest difference between two is that the movie shows it is telephone line based. And what I see in the movie that the author has missed the development of internet. Now in 2015, we have such a developed internet system. We use SNS to communicate with people, we can search all the information with a single click. In my opinion, it is the best advance and one thing the movie could not predicted. So I would like to point out that : The One Thing 'Back To The Future II' Could Never Predict’ was the wide use of internet these days.

How Do I Keep Things Whole

How Do I Keep Things Whole

Homework 10

This question,“How Do I Keep Things Whole”is the same meaning of  “How Do I Keep My Mind Together”. For many people, there are lots of things that drive them crazy. And there would have several different ways to control them. Some may loosen up themselves by exercising, or some may listen to music to keep themselves together. For me, I play sports to keep my mind together. These days, I had lots of things to take care of. First of all, I did not have sufficient money. So I had to divide my money wisely until the next scholarship date. And also some human relationships were stressing for me. To keep my mind together, I started to exercise again. In the past, I had no friends in the Judo club, which is a kind of martial art of Japan, so going there was not the answer of keeping my mind together. But, having some friends there now, I enjoy going. While I exercise I was able to be free from my worries. And when my skills of Judo worked and was able to win over a bigger guy, my stress flew away. So to sum up, I keep my mind together by exercising.

Why Do I Move

Why Do I Move

Homework 10

This question “Why Do I Move” is the same meaning of “Why Do I Live”. From the poem, I could easily draw a conclusion that moving is living. There can be many reasons why I live. There can be goals I want to achieve, or to feel thrills that can be only be felt when I am alive. But, basically the reason why I live is because I am afraid of death and I like the way I am. The reason why I am afraid of death is because, I do not believe in afterlife. I think that, when we die, and when our brain stops working, our emotions, our thoughts will be gone as well. We would not even be experiencing that we even exited in the world. So I think the basic reason “why I live” is because I am not dead. No one knows when we are about to die. We can die from dieses or we can die from age. There are many dangers out in the society that might kill us. So living in this kind of anxiety, I want to feel, taste, experience many things before I die. I do not want to regret about my life when I die. To sum up, the reason why I live is because I want to feel and learn many things.

What Do I Desire

What Do I Desire

Homework 9

It is hard to tell what I desire. But being compelled to say it, I would say that what I desire is to be a versatile person. I want to be good at many things or at least able to do various things. Right now, what I am good at is probably math, or some subjects in my major. In the past, I did not have any thoughts about what I should do in the future, or what I should do to spend time wisely. In conclusion, I had no desire of anything. I was concerned about me wasting time, but was too lazy to distribute some time into thinking what to do. So, in the last summer vacation, I finally had some time to think about myself, and also what I should do to live a good life. In order to do it, I made some lists. I wrote down what I want to do, what I should do, and what things that I should do in order to achieve my goals. As I wrote down what I want to do, I felt happiness. I was able to trace down where I am in this society, or what I am right now. And also, I got some hints about  what I my life goal should be.

First, there are several things that I want to desire this year. To line them up, I want to learn to play piano. My mom taught piano to students when she was young. I was also taught by her, but learning piano was a very boring time for me. So I hardly finished 4  books which are the most basics of playing and understanding the piano. But now, I regret my acts in the past. Although, I can play clarinet quiet fluently, I want to learn another instrument that I can play while I sing a song. Another thing that I desire is to acquire JLPT N1 which is the highest level in Japanese language fluency test. An year ago I took JLPT N2, but because of the low score I failed. Since I did not try my best on the exam, it was natural thing to be failed, but this time I will study more harder and achieve my goals.

To sum up, I think why I would like to be a versatile person is because I would like to get envy from other people. To tell from a objective view, what I desire is attention or respect of other people.

Music in my life

Music in my life

Homework 8

Right now, I listen to lots of music. But, surprisingly, I barely listen to music in the past when I was in a middle or in a primary school. Because of that, when my friends asked me to join in to go to the karaoke, I refused a lot, since I knew not many song to sing. I think there is many reasons why I did not listen or know many music. I guess one of them is because my parents. They did not buy me a mp3 player, and also did not bought me a cellphone, until I graduated from high school. They thought that songs might disturb my studies. Because the lack of devices, I did not know or listen to song so much. After graduating from high school, I had to learn some popular song in order to get along with my peers. Anyways, I do have my favorite song in my life.

It is “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay. How I knew this music is as it follows. When I was preparing for the university, I listen to “some” music which was not my taste. Since the song were just given by my friend. One day, my friend introduced this song to me. And as I heard it, I loved the beat, and the rhythm, and also the lyrics. Most songs makes me sick when I hear it too many times. But this song was different. Though I think I listened to this music like thousand times, I never got bored. And also the funny thing is that, since I listened to this song a lot, I got good at singing this song. Although I am not a good singer, my friend always compliment me when I sing this song. I guess this song helped me a lot when I am studying. Since it made me focus better, and also made me much more relaxed when I was getting a rest.

These days, I got into a song named “The phoenix” by Fall Out Boy. Having a slow and quite life in Tsukuba, the strong beat of this song really got up to me. Although I got a poor memory, I memorized it’s lyrics. I am planning to sing this song at karaoke next time.

In my opinion, the music in my life had started with me going to karaoke. Since I love going to karaoke, I try to listen to variety of music and try to learn some new things.

My memory of the Great East Earthquake.

My memory of the Great East Earthquake.

Homework7

When the Great East Earthquake hit Japan on April 11th of 2011, I was in Korea. I first got the news from the internet. I saw a huge tsunami striking the city, many people losing their homes, friends and families and becoming refugees. But since I was not in Japan, and had never experienced an earthquake before, I could not even guess what it would be like to experience such magnitude earthquake. Hence, although I felt very sympathetic for the people, I was not able to relate to them. Also, since I was not planning to apply for a Japanese university back then, I never thought that story was relevant to my life.

After the earthquake, one of the big problems that Japan faced was the nuclear power plant. Because of the huge earthquake, the nuclear power plant in Hiroshima broke down and as a result, large part of Japan’s soil got polluted with radiation. During the holiday seasons, many Koreans visit Japan for travelling, since Japan is one of the closest countries. But as many Korean and international media revealed that Japan’s radiation level can be dangerous, I saw many Koreans cancelling their trip to Japan.

As years passed, I considered applying for a Japanese University. At first I was worried about the radiation. But as I talked with my mentors and Japanese friends, I realized that I was just overwhelmed by the media’s exaggeration. Also, as 3 years had passed already since the earthquake, nearly everything were backed to the normal. Hence, I decided to follow my plan and applied to the Japanese University.

I got accepted by the University of Tsukuba and came to Japan last year. Since then, I experienced numerous earthquakes and now I have little guess of what it would have been like for those who experienced the Great East Earthquake. Also, my senpai told me that they got so scared that they decided to quicken their conscription date. Additionally, those who were to start their first year in 2011 were recommended to enter the university in the year after. After hearing such stories from the people around me, I was able to rethink about the situation and felt great empathy for the victims.

Tuesday 2 June 2015

If I Were A Girl

If I were a girl, I would be glad about the fact that I do not have to be conscripted, since every man in Korea is conscripted for two years. I would like to spend those two years meaningfully, such as travelling the world, work to save some money or learning new things. I believe that two years are very significant time that I can use to experience and make self-improvement.

If I were a girl, I would spend lots of money on cosmetics. Although many of my male friends tell me that spending money on cosmetics is a waste, this is not true for girls. All my female friends buy lots of cosmetics such as creams, lipsticks and foundation. I think by using such cosmetics, my skin can be rejuvenated as well as look better.

If I were a girl, shopping would also take a big part of my life. I heard that for girls, no matter how many clothes they have, it is never enough for them. Also, since the fashion trend changes every season and every year, I have to keep up with the latest fashion to be the most fashionable person in the country.

If I were a girl, I would go to the idol concerts every weekend, and find joy of being part of the fan club member. Also, I would be very busy for one of my favorite idols birthday. I would write him letters and send him presents as well. Additionally, I would buy a super expensive camera so I can take photos of him anywhere.

If I were a girl, I would take many selfies, and take pictures of my foods. I would get very angry if somebody eats the foods before I take a photo of it for my social network. Since a small change in the lighting of the photo is important, I would spend another hour editing.

If I were a girl, I would always watch out of my weight and try to stay fit. I would try to limit eating greasy foods or eat after eight at night. But, I would make an exception to chicken fries and pizza, because the pleasure of eating those two delicious foods is greater than going on a strict diet the next day.

Mr.Cellphone

Homework5

Date5/29

Mr. Cellphone has the most tiresome work in the whole world. He never gets a chance to rest. He is always very busy checking the mail box, messages, missing phone calls, as well as constant updates of news and other information that his master desires. But, his work does not end there. He has to wake the master up, play with him, talk to him, and even sing for him every day. When he tries to fall asleep, his master feeds him forcefully so that he can work the next day for all day long again. It’s sad because he knows that he cannot be lazy, since every year he will be competing with younger and more powerful workers. He knows that if he falls behind, then his master will desert him anytime he wants. Being Mr. Cellphone is hard.

Defining features of Bangladesh

Homework4

Date: 5/22

Defining features of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a country located in Southern Asia, between Burma and India. The country was originally known as Bengal, before the independence war led by Awami Leauge (AL). With the support of India, Bangali won their independence in 1971, which led to the creation of the nation, Bangladesh. However, Bangladesh experienced multiple changes in their political regimes post-independence. The government faced series of military coups, which resulted a military-backed government (BNP) in 1975. Since then, the Bangladesh government alternated power between AL and BNP. Nevertheless, in December 2008, the Bangladesh government became a fully democratic government and has been a democratic country since. The country has made a great progress in many areas, in particular in economic development, however it still needs much development in human resources.

Bangladesh has a tropical climate with mild winter (October to March), hot, humid summer (March to June) and humid, warm rainy monsoon (June to October). Approximately 60% of the country’s land is arable and most of the country is situated on deltas of large rivers flowing from Himalayas. These geographical factors give Bangladesh many advantages in farming, and hence the country specializes in agriculture. Around half of Bangladeshis are employed in agriculture sector with rice as their main harvesting crop. Also, more than half of their GDP is generated by this sector as well. Another prime industry of Bangladesh is the garment industry. Garment industry makes up 80% of the nation’s exports, surpassing $18 billion. Additionally, the garment industry is known to be very resilient against series of factory accidents and strikes. The agriculture industry coupled with the garment export have contributed greatly to the increasing nation’s GDP.

Bangladesh is a severely overpopulated country that has a population of more than 1.6million - world’s 9th largest. The main religion of the country is Muslim, however Hindu also takes a big part. The average life expectancy of the people is 70.65 years and ranks 150th in the world. Compare to other developed nations, the life expectancy of Bangladeshi is quite low as evident by the relatively small expenditure on health of 3.6% of GDP 2012; ranks 169th in the world. Bangladesh has a very low GDP per capita of $3400PPP (180th lowest in the world). Likewise, many people are landless and are living on and cultivate flood-prone land. However, waterborne diseases are prevalent in surface water, and hence putting people at risks of many bacterial and protozoal diarrhea, typhoid fever and more. Additionally, due to use of commercial pesticides, Bangladesh is experiencing clean water shortages. Despite these difficulties, the school life expectancy is average of 10 years both for girls and boys and unemployment is quite low of average of 9.3% for both male and female (105th world rank).

Bangladesh is a country known for its bountiful agricultural industry and beautiful garment productions. However, the country still needs much improvement in human development. In particular, education (literacy rate), clean water access, and sanitation facility access needs urgent improvements. In conclusion, with the benefit of the country’s geographical location and human resources, Bangladesh is a country of hope and dreams.

My thoughts about the movie clip-Wanderers

Homework 3

Date: 5/15

My thoughts about the movie clip - Wanderers

When I first watched the clip - Wanderers, I was confused what this clip was trying to convey because it neither had a narration nor a subtitle, but only a background music. However, I could tell that this movie was related to space and future technology. The setting of this clip seemed to be set in Jupiter or perhaps in another celestial body. Also, as humans were flying with possible future gear in an unidentified planet, the clip seemed to portray the development of our technology as well.

By watching the clip for several times, I was able to analyze some aspects of different scenes.
0:15 Earth
0:50 Jupiter orbit
1:00 Enceladus orbit, moon of Saturn
1:30 Space elevator on Mars
1:50 Sunset on Mars
2:00 Equatorial ridge on Iapetus, moon of Saturn
2:10 Comets
2:20 Space habitat
2:30 Europa, moon of Jupiter (Io and Jupiter in the background)
2:35 Astronauts flying with wings in low g on Titan, moon of Saturn
2:40 Astronauts jump from Verona Ropes on Miranda, moon of Uranus, with
20 kilometers the highest cliff in the Solar System
3:00 Rings of Saturn seen from above the clouds of Titan.

This clip reminded me of the movie, Interstellar (2014) by Christopher Nolan. Interstellar is a S.F. movie, where the main characters were given a mission to find a planet that could host human lives. During the journey, the movie showed abstruse scenes and esoteric shapes of different planets and stars. Also, the movie involved potential future technology such as freezing a person to sleep to avoid aging. In this aspect, I believe that the clip is similar to the movie. Both films conveyed advance technology such as spaceships and other supplementary gears that the characters could use to visit and observe an unknown celestial body.

Another movie that I could relate this clip to was Space Odyssey (2001) by Stanley Cupric. This movie was known for its innovative depictions of space and excellent use of soundtracks. Similar to this movie, I believe that the clip also had a very good use of soundtracks. In particular, the close up scene of a woman coupled with the low key tone of the music had helped to provoke a sense of hope and excitements by the audience to actually see what is depicted in the clip near future.

Furthermore, the clip was very futuristic and imaginative in its portrayal of potential future technology. Space is a very vast, mysterious and curious place that humans have been trying to understand for decades. Although we were able to come up with several theories that may explain the creation of our world, such as Big Bang theory, much remains unknown. However, in the clip, there were many yet developed technologies that allowed humans to freely travel and observe beyond our planet. Due to these depictions, I believe that it allowed the audience to think about the actual potentials of developing those technologies.

My diet

My diet

There are lots of different types of diets. For example, there are people who only eats vegetables, people who regularly eats three meals per day, or people who skips breakfast or dinner. In this post, I am going to introduce my diet.

Before I entered the university, I was forced to eat breakfast by my parents. Breakfast is known to provide sufficient energy for morning routines as well as many other health benefits. Many researchers say that breakfast is very crucial part of our diet. However, although I agree to this fact, I am a little bit suspicious that a morning meal is better than a bit of more sleep. I personally believe that sleep can provide more energy than a bit of breakfast.

As I became a university student, I moved out from home and I am living alone right now. Since I never favored eating breakfast, I do not eat breakfast anymore. But on the days when there is an important assessments at school, I try to have something in the morning, hoping that all the benefits of breakfast will help my brain to work better.

When I first came to Japan last year, I used to live at a dormitory. But, due to the poor facilities, I had to move out. I could not cook at the dormitory because, the kitchen was too small and unhygienic for many students to use. I was always cautious not to use the kitchen for so long so that other students could also cook. Also, I had to consider the nationality of the other students on the floor as the smell of my country’s food could be not as appealing to others.

àHow the dormitory looks like

Now that I am living in an apartment, I try to cook more often. I made Okonomiyaki, Yakisoba, spaghetti and many more in the past two weeks. Recently, I have been choosing the menu of the day by watching a television channel related to cooking, where famous chiefs compete with each other. The important rule is that they have to finish cooking within 15 minutes with limited ingredients. Sometimes, there are some dishes that I really want to try while watching the show. So, I take a note of the recipe and head straight down to a shop and try to cook the dish.

àhow my kitchen looks like

Among the three meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner, I only eat lunch at a regular time, because the lunch time is set by the school. For dinner, I eat whenever I become hungry. Sometimes I eat three bowls of rice, or when I am not very hungry I just have an icecream. At first I was worried that my irregular diet will lead to gaining of weight or increase my blood pressure, since I eat too much salty foods. However, I was relieved to find out that both my weight and blood pressure was normal by the health check done at school.

In conclusion, I believe that every individual has different diet that is suitable for themselves. Although my diet is often irregular and sometimes even have unbalanced nutrients, I am very satisfied with my current diet routine.

A List Of 10Goals For This Year

1. Being healthy all year long
I believe that health is the most important thing in our lives. Few days ago, I caught a cold and realized how important it is to be healthy, especially living abroad alone.
2. Improve my Japanese
Because I am not a Japanese, I sometimes find it difficult to clearly express myself, and understand what others are saying. Also, since I will be living in Japan for upcoming four years, I think it will be very important that I become fluent in the language.
3. Make new friends
I believe having a good friendship with my college friends will be very helpful in many ways. They can help me to improve my Japanese skills, as well as being just being a good companion.
4. Get a g.p.a over 3.0
University is not the final goal for me. I also want to attend a graduate school, which requires a good g.p.a. and a deep understanding of my academic area.
5. Save money
I am receiving a government scholarship every month. Although, this is a large amount of money, I use every single Yen out of it. This year, I would like to improve my financial sense so that I can save up for traveling.
6. Learn a new instrument
I want to learn a new instrument among guitar, violin, and drum. And I believe learning how to play an instrument can be a great hobby.
7. Try Japanese cuisine
As a foreigner, there are so much delicious Japanese foods that I have never tasted before. I hope to travel Japan and have the opportunity to experience Japanese exotic foods.
8. Skydiving
I always loved thrilling activities. Since I have more time than when I was a high school student, I would like to try skydiving.
9. Stay fit
Although I am not overweight, I would like to maintain my fitness level. I will exercise regularly and hopefully, I can grow more muscles as well.
10. Learn to do magic
Being a magician was my dream when I was in elementary school. In Tsukuba University, I'm planning to sign up for a magic club, and learn some fantastic magic.
